Caravan Guard reckons caravan owners are holding on to their vans for longer and has extended its “new for old” cover limit from five to 15 years in response.

According to the specialist insurer, changes of caravans have been down 47% in the last year, compared with the previous 12 months, probably as a result of the recession but also reflecting improved build quality.

The firm points out that it does not require a caravanner to become a customer before their van reaches a certain age, or to have owned the caravan from new, to take advantage of the extended cover.

However, usual underwriting terms apply and owners must insure against the value of a brand new replacement.

Caravan Guard policies include European cover, emergency accommodation expenses of up to £50 a day, £2,000,000 public liability and £15,000 fatal accident benefit as standard, and the firm’s services are backed up by an award-winning customer service team and 24 hour claims helpline.
