Is Your Oregon Car Insurance Ready for the Apocalypse?

That’s great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane…

It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.

R.E.M. “The End of the World as We Know It”

Stale air. Gym socks. A teacher droning on and on about how important it is to be careful when you get behind the wheel. The cute guy/girl next to you rolling their eyes as you watch yet another video on what can happen when teenagers decide to show off by doing 90 down the interstate. That’s how most of us remember our high school driver’s ed classes! Whether you diligently paid attention or just barely managed to keep from nodding off until the bell rings, there was one lesson every new driver took with them when they walked out the door.

You can never be too careful.

Fast forward this scene. Now, ten years later, all those young men and women are up and coming twenty-somethings buying houses, launching careers and buying their own policies from any of 50+ Oregon car insurance companies while they find out that the harbingers of doom on every movie they’ve ever watched look like noobs in the apocalypse biz compared to their car insurance agent!

The Famed Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Writers deal in happy endings. Hollywood producers deal in happy endings. O

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is pushing for legislation that would mandate insurance coverage for the treatment and diagnosis of autism in the state. This is not his first time trying to push for legislation, but while it failed before, he hopes that it will be passed in the 2010 legislative session.

Recently, Missouri Senators Scott Rupp and Eric Schmitt have both noted that one in 100 children are diagnosed with autism. Despite the overwhelming number of children who need treatment, insurance companies won’t pay to treat the disease.

It is for this reason that together, Rupp and Schmitt are co-sponsoring a bill supported by Nixon, Missouri House Speaker Ron Richard and other state members, both Republican and Democrat, that would require insurance companies to pay.

Legislative members are pushing to have a measure passed within a year. If it is passed, insurance companies would have to cover up to $72,000 a year to diagnose and treat autism.

Nixon, who recently made stops in Jefferson City, Springfield and St. Louis, Mo. to push his agenda noted that he would like to fall in line with the 14 other states that already have this legislation in place.

Also, he hopes that Missouri can become a nationwide leader in diagnosing and treating autism.

Why Is Buying New Jersey Auto Insurance So Darn Expensive????

As if ordinary inflation wasn’t enough, you’ve got the added cost of technology sending your monthly bills sky high each month. Living just outside NYC isn’t helping. So why isn’t New Jersey doing something about how ridiculously expensive its auto insurance is?

10 Most Expensive Cars to Insure

1. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

2. Mercedes CL

3. Dodge SRT-4

4. Subaru Impreza WRX

5. Jaguar XK Convertible

6. Lexus IS 300

7. Honda S2000

8. Acura RSX

9. Nissan 350Z

10. Jaguar XJ

New Jersey is squeaking in at a prestigious Number Two on America’s Most Expensive Places to Have to Buy Auto Insurance-and that was after the 9.6% rate decrease that knocked it out of the top spot it held in 2007. It’s not known for its huge urban sprawl or it ridiculously high crime rates-New York, California and Washington, D.C. have it beat. So why is New Jersey auto insurance so expensive?

For starters, the Garden State is the most densely populated state in the country. With 1,171 people occupying each square mile, it’s impossible to turn around with tripping over somebody! That’s bad enough, but when you think about the number of people that leaves driving around on the New Jersey highways it’s easy to see why the auto insurance companies would be a little…concerned. The number of no-fault insurance fraud cases have risen steadily in New York with 11,000 incidences reported already this year. Compared to last year this is a seven percent increase. The New York State Insurance Department is suggesting changes be made in required auto insurance coverage to hopefully eliminate the number of fraud cases. The changes will impact consumers in terms of the insurance requirements and the cost of auto insurance.

In general the proposed rules give insurance companies much more leeway when it comes to handling what it suspects are fraud cases. For example, one proposal is to make it easier for insurance companies to dispute health care charges that exceed appropriate free schedules. In another proposal the insurance company would be allowed to suspend medical payments related to the insurance claim if fraud on the part of the medical clinic is suspected.

The New York State Insurance Department has been working hard to find ways to reduce auto insurance fraud because consumers pay higher rates than would be required if fraud was lessened or eliminated. Currently New York Drivers are paying the second highest auto insurance rates in the United States. The cost of fraud cases is passed on to consumers through insurance premiums and is often called a fraud and waste tax.

No fault automobile insurance coverage allows a victim of a car accident to file claims with his or her own insurance company to collect medical payments and lost wages. It does not matter who caused the accident and thus the no-fault designation.

Virgin Galactic’s sub-orbital space plane, the SpaceShipTwo, is preparing for test flights which the company’s owner Richard Branson hopes it will be taking tourists into space by 2012.

For £120,000, wealthy space tourists will be able to enjoy a few minutes’ weightlessness while marveling at views of the Earth from space. So far 300 people have paid in full for their ticket, while a further 82,000 have registered their interest on Virgin Galactic’s website. The engineers behind the craft refer to the rich, middle-aged people as their target market.

A small, rocket-propelled, shuttle-like vehicle around the size of a light aircraft, SpaceShipTwo will be carried to 50,000 feet above sea level – 20,000 feet higher than most airliners – by its mothership, WhiteKnightTwo.

Once there, SpaceShipTwo’s own rocket engine will fire, launching the little ship to the boundary between the atmosphere and the vacuum of space at three times the speed of sound. After the engines are cut off, they will enter free-fall, experiencing total weightlessness for several minutes.

WhiteKnightTwo has been undergoing flight tests since December last year. The SpaceShipTwo is still under construction and is expected to make its first test flights in the early months of 2010.
