Insurance of any sort is to ensure that there is no financial burden on you in case of an accident or a mishap or sorts. When a house is insured against damage from a hurricane or a car from theft, it is only natural that your professional life be insured too, right? Why shouldn’t your livelihood be protected from the financial burden any unfavourable situation that might arise out of a freak accident?

The best way a professional practice or business can get ahead is to ensure that there is enough financial security. Keeping a good savings in the bank is one way but an insurance cover for professionals is the evolving trend because of the recent liberalization of laws, which tend to hold professionals to pay damages. Moreover, there is every chance of an office or a clinic being damaged due to natural causes just like a house. Essentially, all professionals need insurance to make sure that their source of a monthly income is not damaged by factors that are not in anyone’s control.

Usually, an insurance policy for professionals specifies the type of damages that will be covered and this will be of great help when redeeming compensation or paying up for damages. In addition insurance cover for professionals can also help in patent and intellectual property cases and damages. It may not happen willingly but if there is any violation of such a patent, the damages to be paid will be very heavy and it is not uncommon for businesses to close down after such an event. The bottom line is that these policies are of great use primarily because of the protection they offer and the manner in which they do so.

Highmark and the West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS) agreed on a definitive partnership and selected an interim chief executive officer to oversee the implementation of the agreement.

The two organizations’ board of directors approved the agreement, which will soon be filed with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID), Highmark repoted.

The transaction also must be reviewed by Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

“This transaction is critical to ensuring the continued vitality of the West Penn Allegheny Health System and maintaining provider choice in our community,” said Kenneth R. Melani, president and CEO of Highmark, in a statement. “We’ve made significant progress to get to this point, but there is much to be done that cannot be accomplished until the affiliation is approved. For the benefit of the community, we hope the review and approval process is thorough and timely.”

As part of the affiliation agreement, announced June 28, Highmark said it provided WPAHS with an initial grant of $50 million to sustain and strengthen West Penn and Forbes Regional hospitals.

Highmark, based in Pittsburgh, Pa., said it made a total financial commitment of up to $475 million, including $75 million to fund scholarships for students attending medical schools affiliated with WPAHS, and to support other health professional education programs.

“Our anticipated partnership with Highmark has energized our medical staff and employees,” said Jack Isherwood, chairman of the board of WPAHS, in a statement. “We believe thi

While Medicare premiums are increasing next year, the cost will not be as bad as was previously predicted, hopefully helping seniors keep their health insurance costs affordable.

Originally expected to rise $10.20, the new Medicare Part B premium will cost only $3.50 more per month in 2012. For most beneficiaries, the total cost of the premium will be just $99.90. Medicare Part B pays for physician visits, hospital outpatient costs, and other services such as home health care.

Some Medicare beneficiaries will actually see lower payments. The standard premium cost for new enrollees since 2008 have been $115.40. These seniors will see their premiums drop by $15.50 per month.

Medicare premium increases are based partly on Social Security payouts. A special provision links Part B payments with the checks from which they usually get deducted. Because the Social Security Administration announced that recipients will receive a 3.6% cost-of-living increase in their checks next year, Medicare costs will not rise significantly.

“More people are sharing in the smaller-than-expected increases in costs,” said Dr. Don Berwick, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator. “Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Medicare is providing better benefits at lower cost,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Bournemouth Borough Council has granted permission for a beach hut to be built on the beach in order for legal weddings to take place.

British law states that ceremonies can only take place in a ‘permanent covered building’. Now that the white timber ‘chapel’ has been built on the sands of Bournemouth beach, it means that couples are able to have the beach wedding they have always dreamed about, for cheaper than going abroad.

The first wedding will be held in April next year, and up to 400 guests can be entertained in a marquee. Around 60 enquiries were received by Bournemouth Borough Council regarding beach weddings, encouraging them to respond.

Director of Bellissimo Wedding Planners, Melanie Kiani, said: ‘This is an absolultey amazing opportunity for prospective couples. We can provide every last detail – catering, flowers, styling and décor, music, you name it. Couples can arrive at the ceremony on a decorated train chugging along the prom, or sweep down to the beach in a beautifully decorated cliff lift.’

‘Never before has it been possible to conduct a legal, civil ceremony on the beach in this country, we think it will be phenomenally popular.’

The beach hut is available for weddings between April and October every year, from 10am to 4.30pm, seven days a week.

So you and your friend are going to study in the U.S.—you, as an exchange student and she, as an international student. Not all visas are equal, and as a J1 visa holder, you need to have J1 visa health insurance that conforms to the rules laid down by the U.S. government. Your friend, meanwhile, will need to purchase international student health insurance.

As a J1 student, your insurance must provide for at least $50,000 in medical benefits per accident or illness, and cover repatriation of remains up to $7,500. The plan must also provide for emergency medical evacuation to the student’s home country, for at least $10,000. There are a few other requirements as well.

To apply for and receive a J1 visa, several colleges help out with their office of international students. In general, visas are issued at the U.S. consulate if the consular officer is convinced that the applicant will return to the home country after completion of the period of study. It is important to convey that message as briefly as possible, with additional documentation, if necessary.

Visas for international students are regulated to a large extent, and most questions can be answered even before arrival by the school/college administrative/international office. Remember that your J1 visa insurance needs to kick in as soon as possible, and several plans that satisfy the government criteria are available online as well.
